Q & A With Cougar Pitcher Steve Kost

March 29, 2008

Question: Why did you choose to attend Washington State?

Answer: I saw a great opportunity to change what was going on here. Coach Marbut pitched the idea of turning this thing around and I came here with Jim Murphy and some others guys I had an opportunity to meet and wanted to have as teammates.

Question: What is the biggest difference between this year's team and the others you have been on at WSU?

Answer: The talent has gotten better. As seniors, this is our last chance. As leaders, we know have young guys who are good. It is our job to bring them along and leave the program better than when we got here.

Question: What goes through your mind when you are called upon to come in and face one or two batters?

Answer: I try to keep things blank at first. I try to execute the game plan and pound the strike zone. I tend to thrive on the intensity of the moment. I seem to do better when I come into a game with men on base.

Question: What are your goals this season both for yourself and the team?

Answer: Personally, I want to come into a game and help us win. I'd like to stretch it out and finish some innings, not just be a guy who faces one or two hitters. I know I am probably going to have more appearances than anyone else so I view myself as an everyday player like the position guys. As a team, we know if we play well enough, we have a chance to win in this league and put ourselves in a position to advance to a regional. We have done a good job of that so far this season.

Question: What are your plans after college?

Answer: I am going to be an accountant, so there is some number crunching in my future. Also, I will be attending grad school next year.
